Thanks for: how to remove and reinstall kernel 2.6.27?

Thanks to all who helped last week on this and the other threads ("is
this grub.conf correct" and "can't login as root"), for the help in
getting my computer back into a usable state.

There were other problems this morning, but that's another story.
