You could use wget to get the router status page. From there, you
can process it any way you want.

You could also take a look at ddclient. It is a Perl script that
watches for changes in the IP address, and updates a DynamicDNS
site. It has the advantage of handling user/password if necessary
for router access.

With some routers, you also have the option of having them send you
the log entries. This may be by e-mail, or by sending them to
syslogd. But this will require more setup.
