i am under sl5.4 now and no ktorrent in this kde version, [i use ctorrent]
so i can not check for ktorrent in kde help, which you might try.

ktorrent will resume from a pause, but not sure if you kill it.

while having other problems with ktorrent in f8, from a quick scan of 'forum'
at http://ktorrent.org/ a month or two back, i do recall there were several
post regarding problems similar to yours.

as a suggestion, let it keep running.

log http://ktorrent.org/forum/search.php and go from there. if nothing else,
you will gain a familiarity with ktorrent and know what it will and will not
do. ;o)

i know, not really and answer you would like, but it will get you going until
you can find something better.
