i was referring to 'settings > configure kate', which is different.

i am not in f8 now, but sl5.2 shows;
 kdeaddons.i386 ver. 3.5.4-1.fc6
 kdebase.i386 ver. 6:3.5.4-18.el5

this is true, and i do not blame you.

you might run 'yum check-update|grep kde' if you have not run update lately.
also, 'rpm --checksig kdeaddons.i386' and 'rpm --verify kdeaddons.i386'
