Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding.

I am using Fedora 9 on an IA64 workstation. When I ssh -X to another
host, the ssh authentication succeeds in under a second, but the X11
authentication takes about 20 seconds and issues the warning:
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding.

My home directory is NFS exported over GB ethernet, and in this test
case the host I am logging into is on the LAN and is RHEL 4.6 X86-64. I
can ssh -X from the RHEL systems with no problem, it is just from this
system to other systems. The other IA64 system we have is running RHEL
4.4 with no problem.

I have Fedora9 (x86-64) installed on my home system and ssh -X works fine.
I have looked at some blogs on this issue, but none of the fixes
suggested in the blogs make any difference.
Once I log in, forwarding works fine.
In looking at the log, it appears that xauth is the issue as in the
xauth list below.
