Why is Firefox such a beast??

After doing a Firefox upgrade or install, I always crank up Firefox as root and
delete all of the languages (and the dom-inspector thing).  Firefox runs much
faster after that.

It's never been clear to me if I could accomplish the same thing by simply
deleting the language files directly instead of going through the Firefox
"really delete this?" stuff.
