Since I didn't make it obvious in my previous reply, gtkpod (and other
libgpod using apps like rhythmbox) should happily work with the iPhone
iff:

a) the iphone is jailbroken and mounted via sshfs (no tools in Fedora
to do this AFAIK), and

b) the firmware on the iphone is less than 2.0 (where Apple changed
the hashing scheme).

There is some info at http://gtkpod.wikispaces.com/Sysinfo+File that
you'd need as well.
