I would guess a virtualbox bug.  The debug code enabled in the pre-release 
kernels takes advantage of some of the more obscure cpu features that probably 
get the least QA exposure.  See if they know about it.

Of course, the reverse is also possible.  We may not be properly handling an 
obscure but legal interrupt configuration that is unique to virtualbox.  Given 
all the screwy hardware that gets baremetal testing, I find this unlikely, 
unless other people are also having this problem on baremetal.
