gdm themes - how?

Hello,

I used to have gdm themes (customized login screens) from
http://art.gnome.org and they were fantastic.

Installation was a piece of cake. There were also other settings such
as "auto-login", configuring language selection and what not. I don't
see that in F9 anymore.

I read somewhere that gdm-setup is being "re-written" since GNOME
2.21.0 and I don't see it in 2.22.0

This seems to be a _huge_ regression.

I do not want to edit an XML file to set the background.  What am I missing?
