K3B freezes system (temporarily)

When I run K3B on Fedora 10 (or past versions)
it pretty much freezes my system until it finishes.
Especially when erasing a CD, display, keyboard
and mouse are frozen.

I'm running a four-processor system.  What would
K3B be doing which would lock the system so that
it would not respond?
