F12 Lost Gnome Panels

Yikes, that's a LOT of work for this one problem, and a lot of
customization to comb through later.  *At most* you would want to
backup .gconf/apps/panel -- not the whole kit 'n' kaboodle.  Still not
sure that's necessary though.
