All this technical mumbo-jumbo aside.  Basically, it's because GNOME
treats the KDE apps unfairly.

Yes, it's lame.  Yes, it's a known problem in GNOME, and they're
working (talking about working?) on it.

No, there's nothing you can do - aside from helping - that will make
anyone move faster to solve it.
