Wifi dies about once an hour. Bug in update ?

I spoke too soon.  My wifi connection just died.

Before I rebooted, I went into the network configuration application and
enabled "Controlled by Network Manager".  Prior to right now I had that
disabled, because I was setting things manually.

What does "--sm-disable" mean ?

I don't have an icon anywhere that I can use to set which wireless
connection point I want to use.  How do I get an icon in a panel for
nm-applet ?
