myqsl dummy needs help

Greetings all;

Following the instructs for setting up mythtv, which needs mysql, from the 
<http://mythtv.org/wiki/Installing_MythTV_on_Fedora#Setup_MySQL>
1.# /sbin/chkconfig mysqld on
2.# /sbin/service mysqld start
3.# mysql -u root mysql
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: 
NO)

Obviously one cannot administrate a database if even root has no access.

How to proceed is the question?
