myqsl dummy needs help

Unforch Steve, same error:

[root at coyote etc]# mysql -u root mysql -p
Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: 
YES)
[root at coyote etc]# mysql -u root mysql -p
Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: 
YES)

in each case I entered my root pw at the prompt.
