I do not see anything wrong. You do not even have a .asoundrc.
You should check, first, whether you have a cabling problem.
Make your tests with the usb device unpluged, if possible.

I do not understand why the library version was not printed, but you said
you have alsa-lib-1.0.19-2.fc10.i386.
If you updated recently, I advise a reboot. If you have already done that,
then I suggest you upgrade alsa-driver to 1.0.19 to match your lib version.

This rpm will just install the alsa modules version 1.0.19.
If you think the result is not better, you can just uninstall it (no
kernel module is overwriten).
In either case, you need to reboot to reload the new modules.
Also, remember to adjust the mixer levels appropriately.
