What does "host www.mydomain.com" give you for an IP address? It
sounds like your name server returns 171.203.20.173 for the IP
address, so that is what ping uses.

Depending on your setup, that may be the proper response.

Is the domain name you are using a real domain name?

Are you running a local name server?

Is www.mydomain.com listed in your /etc/hosts file?
