  Where are the arguments that these scripts get called with documented ?

  In particular, how do the scripts know what is happening -
specifically which connection is being [de]activated - or which vpn ?

  Looks like $1 can be "up" or something else
             $2 can be "down" or something else

  $1 may be an interface ?
