This looks pretty good. But somehow it still tries to fall back to the
CDROM mode.
Try to create a new udev rule (as root) /etc/udev/rules.d/55-umts.rules
that contains the following:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb"
SYSFS{idProduct}=="5010"
SYSFS{idVendor}=="1410", RUN+="usb_modeswitch -v 1410p 5010  -d -H1"

Then reboot and hope
Try to establish the connection with NetworkManager (right click on
NetworkManager applet->Edit Connections...)
