Boot fails, disk not recognized.

Hi,

I recently moved from Slackware to FC10. I previously noted that an old harddisk and cdrom weren't recognized during boot. Now however, due to unknown changes, my FC10 root disk isn't recognized. boot ends with the messages:

setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory
Mount failed for selinuxfs on /selinux: No such file or directory
Switching to new root and running init.
ERROR opening /dev/console
[and a line about attemting to use /dev/fd0 (floppy), which I don't have]

I scrolled up and noted that the order in which disks are recognized during boot was changed and that the old harddisk is recognized, but the disk contining FC's root is not. I have a PDC20268 ide controller. I think /dev/hdg and /dev/hdh are connected (see table below), as well as the cdrom. I can boot slackware or FC10 with my livecd and files are ok. See my `fdisk -l' output below.

Slackware	FC10-previously FC10fail (as observed in log)
/dev/hdb	/dev/sdc not found
/dev/hdf	not found /dev/sda
/dev/hdg	/dev/sda /dev/sdb
/dev/hdh	/dev/sdb /dev/sdc

I tried making an initrd:

mount --bind /mnt/fedora/lib/modules/2.6.27.24-170.2.68.fc10.i686.PAE /lib/modules/2.6.27.24-170.2.68.fc10.i686.PAE

mkinitrd --with=scsi_wait_scan --with=pata_pdc2027x /boot/initrd-2.6.27.24-170.2.68.fc10.i686.PAE.img -k 2.6.27.24-170.2.68.fc10.i686.PAE

`scsi_wait_scan' because I also noticed previously long stalls during boot,

I am not sure how to resolve this. Does anybody have an idea?

Thanks for reading,
