Problem with Livecd and i586

hi

I have created a specialised spin of fedora 11, both gnome and XFCE,
which work fine on my desktop (a P4). However when I try to boot on an
old laptop, a K6/2 500 mhz, it fails at boot with

IO APIC resources could not be allocated
Kernel Panic - not syncinging: attempted to kill init

I have tried noapic and noacpi - no diiference

The laptop boots puppy fine

So any idea what the issue is here
