Suggestion - replace gdm with kdm as the default

I do have nvidia, but 2 things:
1) doesn't hang when shutdown from gdm
2) Isn't totally hung, just a black screen with not noticable disk i/o.  
Hitting power button gives a LOUD beep, and then shuts down OK.
