Well, this *is* a Fedora list, so you can pretty much assume that almost 
everyone will have a computer, and a DVD burner. That's what I meant, "use what 
you have" is the choice. And for many students and young family adults "no 
budget" may mean zero money indeed, with anything over the cost of the media 
being unaffordable.

I do a fair bit of recording, and I suspect that "just works" implies "works for 
what the vendor thought you should want." The lack of those million options 
becomes an issue if your goals are the same as the manufacterer.

If I video a wedding (as example) I will want to shoot 720i and have that as my 
reference, even though I need to connect to something capable to display it, 
typically computer monitor or HDTV via HDMI. Then after editing there will be a 
downsize for DVD, one to about 640x480 to share with friend and upload to 
youtube, and a 320x240 in avi or wmv format for their website so people with 
limited bandwidth can view, or see on phones. And maybe a version in SVCD 
because that's cheaper media to give to a lot of people.
