Taaraaah! I had a rpmfusion-free-updates.repo file in /etc, with 
enabled=0. Edited that to enabled=1 & all is honky-dory.

Suddenly, after many tries, Skype works..... with both Skype in & out 
devices set to SI7012(hw:si7012,0)
