question about fedora version of packages

Bonsoir,

I run fedora 10: fedora texlive* packages are installed.

In texmf.cnf we can read:

% original texmf.cnf -- runtime path configuration file for kpathsea.
% (If you change or delete `original' on the previous line, the
% distribution won't install its version over yours.)

OK. So I wanted to make changes to this file to fit my config and I
deleted "original" from the first line.

At the first update my texmf.cnf with the deleted "original" and with
the changes I have made has been crushed... and I had to make my
personal config again...

Where is the mistake?
