where's network-applet on F12 panel?

I've just got F12 beta running, via usb stick, on my eeepc 901. it seems
to be running pretty well, but...

there's no networkmanager applet on the panel. ps says nm-applet is running,
but how do I interact with it if I can't see it on the panel?

I saw a bugzilla about NM problems that said to upgrade the NM packages
from testing, so I did, butit didn't help any.

It sees my wireless, I can tell because from a commandline "iwlist scan"
shows all the APs in the neighborhood, including my own.
