It seems remove-leaves is not used with erase:

As for the french dictionary, it's not part of any of those files. God
knows where it's installed.

locate dict | grep fr

provides the following possibilities:

/usr/lib64/thunderbird-3.0b3/extensions/langpack-fr at thunderbird.mozilla.org/dictionaries/fr.aff
/usr/lib64/thunderbird-3.0b3/extensions/langpack-fr at thunderbird.mozilla.org/dictionaries/fr.dic

but this seems only for Thunderbird.

/usr/share/apps/koffice/hyphdicts/hyph_fr.dic

but this seems only for hyphenation
