I checked out kadischi from CVS configured, built and installed it no problems as per the wiki instructions. I have a local mirror of rawhide, on a machine called "shuttle" so attempted to built from it as follows # kadischi http://shuttle/fc5/x86_64 my.iso Starting kadischi... Chitlesh seemed to think that no anaconda patches were now required, but I'm on today's version ... # yum info anaconda Name : anaconda Arch : x86_64 Version: 10.91.11 Release: 1 but this is exactly the same point I got to on 2006-01-08, I saw in changelog for anaconda about bypassing the partitioning screen, but that seems to be only in text mode so I applied the anaconda/flags patches # patch -b /usr/sbin/anaconda /usr/local/share/kadischi/patches/anaconda.patch patching file /usr/sbin/anaconda Hunk #1 FAILED at 400. The Anaconda patches in CVS are for Fedora Core 4 Anaconda. If you are using FC5t2 Anaconda or RAWHIDE's Anaconda You need to remove the --livecd option from kadischi.py. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=123903 What I am currently doing here locally, is alleviating a few problems I've come across. The livecd-mkinitrd.sh also needs modified to include some missing libraries for /bin/ash. I have patches for this also. These things I've fixed and I have patches for, though they are simply temporary fixes. I've built a few RAWHIDE discs so far, and they all work great, even with the quick hack job on the few files. Give me a day ro two and I'll write up a mail, and attach teh patches with instructions. Just remember it isn't anything fancy, and it won't be merged into Kadischi curent codebase. Besides this I'm going to do a little more digging around, and see if we can't get our cdrom:// method working for users using DVD media, this is important as is Anaconda rootpath's partitioning. J. So long as the logs are posted from one meeting to the next, the problem is that the 20:00 merting is relatively soon after the 14:00 meeting so it can pick up points, but the next 14:00 meeting will always be nearly a week after the preceeding 20:00 meeting, so it might make the flow a bit difficult. > I think this would give all of us a 'Time to meet' at the least > also open up an avenue for people wanting to attend but may not make it > to one, or another. > Is this redundant, is it going to create too much out-of-sync'ness? > Surely not if both meeting notes are posted somewhere, by someone. Actually, kadischi is working fine on FC4 with the patches. Besides updating the documentation and uploading the spec-file, kadischi-nokernel.patch and newrpms-kadischi-userbuild.patch, I don't see much changes to Kadischi's cvs files; Should we afterwards named it 0.1-1 ? After I burnt the iso into CD and test it. It stopped by showing a sequence of kernel error stack. The very early error showed that root= is not specified correctly, so I checked out the isolinux.cfg in my cd I found there is no root= setting in the file. My question is: 1. When booting, the CD required me to enter boot kernel image ("boot:_"), I entered vmlinuz then it starts loading. Is it supposed to check the boot kernel image automatically? If that what's wrong with my built CD? 2. I found there is a grub folder there which confused me, which one is really in the MBR or both? What is that for? 3. The root error I described, should I modified ioslinux.cfg by adding root=/dev/hdc and rebuild using tools in Kadischi or there is something wrong during the process of generating iso? (Although it looks quite smooth) Anyone could help me to fix the problem? Thx Good day. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... That folder should have splash.xpm.gz in it, which is the Grub splash screen though it isn't used. > 3. What you would be better off doing is posting a log of the error, or some other information for us to get a better look at it. Without this, rhgb tries to start, and borks on unknown resolution. Apparently, i patched in the reverse order. Also, after our discussion on #fedora-livecd, it appears that the anaconda.patch for FC4 causes this problem. It would be better to actually fix anaconda.patch for those on FC4. Attached is teh corrected anaconda.patch. This makes 08inittab.sh and 09xorg.sh unneccessary. I'll look into rhgb parameter passing more... i think i have a neat solution for it. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... True we must look at what is failing. We must also try not to damage kadischi as well. OK, sorry I've been a bit quiet since having been given the kadischi "CVS reins" but I've been travelling for a few days and turned out to have patchier net access than I was expecting. Anyway I plan to tag the current CVS (if it hasn't been done already) as a line in the sand, and then start testing and commiting patches into head, from a quick look at a couple of them I'm going to need to make some conditional on FC5T2 so as not to break FC4. The issue regarding using Kadischi with DVD repository media has been resolved. For users under FC5t2 or t3 and Anaconda 10.92.0-1 this has been resolved. For users under Fedora Core 4, I will attach a patch, if you wish to use DVD repo media with Kadischi under Fedora Core 4, please apply liberally. I doubt this patch will make it within the CVS, as Andy Burns has stated, the CVS as it is will be where we draw the "line in the sand". Work should be focused on FC5(tx) final for usability, and this was one of my major concerns. Application for Fedora Core 4 users would be similar to the following: patch -b /usr/lib/anaconda/instdata.py /path/to/patch/kadischi-anaconda-fc4-nodvd.patch against anaconda-10.2.1.5-2 (FC4). All you need to do is use /path/to/dvdrom I'll run this down really quick, without diving into the codebase and posting it, as users can check it out of CVS if they wish. Kadischi does simple checks to make sure your repository path exists, along with it's required directories, which are Fedora/{base,RPMS}, and makes certain your destination file is ok. Kadischi will spawn Anaconda passing the method, and rootpath along with any other options you give which soon should be passed along to Anaconda(This is in the TODO in Kadischi/Schedule). If the method isn't an FTP or HTTP repository source, it formats it nicely for Anaconda as nfs://path/to/repo Optical and local media, HTTP, and FTP repositories can be used. This pretty much covers alot of standard methods for repository source. Anaconda of course does it's required checks and takes the neccessary steps to complete the installation. Kadischi then does the required steps to make an ISO. That is the basis of Kadischi's operation. Kadischi is essentially going to become more integrated with Anaconda. I don't think the presentation of patching and etc etc is neccessary either and I'll tell yuo why. What is in CVS now, is absolutely subject to change. Kadischi is going to have alot of work done to/with it to get it usable, as Jeremy stated, not needing to know anything but how to do basic installation procedures. There isn't a need for presentations on patches. What I think would benefit the project if a presentation is made, would be to present: 1) The running of Kadischi 2) The product of Kadischi J. I have updated the CVS version of Kadischi's Doc folder ONLY. The updated files were available since weeks on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Kadischi/Development. Ill be cleaning them now from http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Kadischi/Development. Since we have not yet talked about what to upload with respect to Fedora Core 5, the documentation does not include anything about Fedore Core 5. JasperHartline and I believe anything that needs to be commited to CVS, be commited when FC5 final is released. Fedora Core 4 is still a supported, non-legacy platform. There is no reason to break Kadischi under Fedora Core 4 until Fedora Core 5 is released. This of course means the kernel and initrd need to be outside the Squash image. I haven't looked into this, as Bill Nottingham said he were trying to allocate time to do this, and whatever other changes need to go into Kadischi to better feather it in to the base system. I'll see what I can do later on, if you are around in #Fedora-LiveCD. J. Hartline From brentonr at dorm.org Thu Feb 23 17:37:14 2006 From: brentonr at dorm.org (Brenton Rothchild) Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 11:37:14 -0600 Subject: [Fedora-livecd-list] yum in kickstart %post Message-ID: <43FDF2CA.1080100@dorm.org> Hello everyone, I'm using Kadischi with rawhide and find it incredibly useful. However, I wanted to run yum in the %post section of a kickstart script I use. I ran into a problem where yum attempts to check the current architecture of its environment by checking /proc/cpuinfo. (For the curious, this was to support installing XFce4 from extras-development). Like several other generic chroot'd problems/solutions with kickstarts, I added these before running anaconda in kadischi.py: +# set up chroot environment if necessary +if chroot: + flc_log ('setting up chroot environment from host to build') + os.makedirs (normalize_path([sysdir, 'proc'])) + os.makedirs (normalize_path([sysdir, 'sys'])) + run ("mount --bind /proc %s" % (normalize_path([sysdir, 'proc'])), builddir) + run ("mount --bind /sys %s" % (normalize_path([sysdir, 'sys'])), builddir) and immediately after running anaconda in kadischi.py: +# tear down chroot environment if necessary +if chroot: + flc_log ('tearing down chroot environment') + run ("umount %s" % (normalize_path([sysdir, 'proc'])), builddir) + run ("umount %s" % (normalize_path([sysdir, 'sys'])), builddir) I also added a command-line argument to (--chroot) to control these. I wanted to add this to kadischi so I didn't have to find a way to run the %post with "--nochroot" and find a way to propagate the /tmp/livecd-build_noX/ path into the kickstart somewhere... Of course this means you'd have to build the ISO on the same architecture that you're targeting the ISO installation... I wondered if anyone else had this problem and a better solution? Or would anyone find a patch useful? This was my first time doing anything in Python, too, so who knows if it's a good way to implement this type of solution... ;) I also added a "--nocompress" option to skip the whole mkzftree phase, since most of the ISOs I generate are below CD-sizes before compression; I run the ISOs in QEMU from a USB keychain, so speed was becoming an issue with the compressed images... Would anyone find this useful as well? Thanks! -Brenton Rothchild From jasperhartline at adelphia.net Fri Feb 24 02:28:54 2006 From: jasperhartline at adelphia.net (J. In general, I found being able to use yum with unmodified repos in %post easier. We already have a local mirror of the fedora repos and I didn't want to change anything with them. So, attached are a couple of sets of patches between a post-patched FC5tX Kadischi and adding the --nocompress option, and between the CVS version and adding the --nocompress option. The patches starting with "FC5" are against a post-patched FC5tX copy, and those starting with "CVS" are against a current CVS checkout. Those without a prefix are common to either case: {FC5,CVS}-kadischi.py.patch - Moves the mkzftree and related commands into a conditional block such that "--nocompress" will skip them. install-boot.sh.patch - Adds a check to skip the copying of the initrd if sysdir and csysdir are the same location. create-iso.sh.patch - Adds the ability to skip using the "-z" option in the event you're not using compression. If you have any problems, Filip, let me know - I'd be happy to look into it. Of course, if anyone else would like me change anything, let me know, too! I found it kewl to add only 5 F-keys. 5 F-keys 5 FC Versions. concerning a splash.lss, I failed to make a proper one. if you look at the right hand top corner of the first screenshot you will see a broken blue spot. This is my broken splash.lss if anyone wants to create one for Fedora, do send it to me. Ill add it. Of course if its related to the Fedora Core 5 theme. I don't see how it warrants a section of it's own on the wiki. I think what you might want to do, is create a Kadischi/UserContributions page instead. Hartline I think a UserContributions page would be a great idea; perhaps it would also be a good place to store any additional post-install-scripts that others would contribute? BTW, the reason I tried ISOs without compression is that when I run an ISO under QEMU (without the accelerator), there's a noticable speed improvement when reading files for the first time (i.e. booting, launching apps, etc. especially in the "Doing the pivot_root" phase). Since I'm running these from Windows & Linux from a USB keychain, speed has been important :) Although, overall, running under QEMU is pretty darn slow to begin with... Anyway, I would be happy to detail any of this on the wiki, but I'd like to wait until I know where such details would be best placed first :) -Brenton Rothchild From filip.tsachev at gmail.com Sat Feb 25 21:33:52 2006 From: filip.tsachev at gmail.com (Filip Tsachev) Date: Sat, 25 Feb 2006 16:33:52 -0500 Subject: [Fedora-livecd-list] yum in kickstart %post In-Reply-To: <4400BF5A.5080500@dorm.org> References: <43FDF2CA.1080100@dorm.org> <43FF85E0.70400@dorm.org> <13dbfe4f0602241446x395276a6mf83ecc6e15f3802@mail.gmail.com> <44000111.4030103@adelphia.net> <4400BF5A.5080500@dorm.org> Message-ID: Hello, 2006/2/25, Brenton D. It looks a bit strange, I think when users are visiting the wiki they'll click Contributors and expect to see the current contributors of the project. If you have a look: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Kadischi/Contributors " The following table lists the Kadischi contributors." "The objective of this table is to prepare ground for the next maintainer." This is a bit strange, the user clicked the link I think they were already expecting a list of contributors, not an explanation of what is on the Contributors page. Also.. if you read the second sentence, it really makes little sense. The table's objective is toi list the contributors, not prepare ground for a maintainer. The On Vacation and Mailing List and Archives links, those look great. Here though: "Project Maintainer" "There is no maintainer for the moment. Darko Ilic was the previous maintainer of this project." This information is in the Kadischi/FAQ so it is redundant. We should place it on one or another page. It should exist on the FAQ, or on the Contributors page, but not neccessarily both, unless there is a reason I am not aware of. This block here should go to the FAQ: "How can I help" "There are 3 sub categories of the Kadischi Project:" "1. development/coding" "2. making documentation /wiki maintaining / translation" "3. testers/bugs/bugs triage" Though listing "categories" I think should be changed to "You can help in a few of different ways:" for example with Procedures as a category under that FAQ. Surely this will help organize that wiki page a bit better. J. Hartline From jasperhartline at adelphia.net Sun Feb 26 15:30:21 2006 From: jasperhartline at adelphia.net (J.
