Hmmm... I see what it is.  We changed so that we ensure that you're not 
using like a directory, but that then doesn't work with using the 
mounted block device.  The "simple" fix would be to change the -f there 
to a -e, but that's not the best fix.  I'll try to kludge something in 
shell to work more completely
