Right. Theres the option of doing it when its actually useful inconveniencing
that user once each time they plug the device in, which takes maybe a few
seconds.

And then theres stealing the time of _every_ user even if they don't even
own a smart card reader. Which just seems like a horrible waste of time.
Multiply this by all the other unnecessary daemons and then wonder how
much of your life is being wasted sitting waiting for the computer to become
usable whilst it's sitting there in lala land doing pointless things.
