Lack of the recommend buildroot value is not a blocker, unless the
buildroot is broken somehow.  For example, if it's not under /tmp or
doesn't include the package name.  I'm honestly not sure about whether
the version needs to be there.  The point is to make sure that someone
doing multiple rebuilds in parallel doesn't get hosed because the
packages try to write to the same place, or try to write somewhere the
user can't.  

There was some discussion on the fedora-packaging list some time ago;
perhaps the archives would be of help.
