And "Understanding the Linux Kernel" (also third edition) if you are
interested in the "why" in addition to the "how".

Please note that both books cover the 2.6 kernel around the 2.6.11
release (more or less), and that things may have changed quite a bit
on the way to 2.6.21.

Nonetheless, the ground work covered is invaluable.
