Of course I'll still try to help on IRC where I can in the future, but I think I don't have enough spare time to do the mentor job properly. So I think it's better if I make room for others. It does need some polishing but I was wondering if and when it is refined, it could be added to Fedora's Extras section. The thing is that while trying to optimize its performance, I made it work a little too fast and the window resizing part has to also be worked on. The download page is on my site at: www.victorsk.webhop.org Please let me know if it has a potential to be a contributable product. And, yes, I am also trying to work on my RMI chess game to offer it to Extras but this has been going very slowly (if not at all). I approved it however if you can fix it that would be great. Back on topic. What specifically are you interested in the rpm development. Is it creating packages? Is it coding? Also regarding network security there are a list of orphaned(typo?) packages. I'm assuming it is about rpm development in the sense of creating packages. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Extras/Contributors Or you can help out on the legacy project which I believe need help as well. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legacy Also if those don't interest you there is a help wanted page. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/HelpWanted This will help you pick a specific area which doesn't need you to be able to create packages at all. There are lots of areas that people can contribute in and its up to you to pick one. :) Also welcome to the mailing list. [Fwd: Re: seeking bugtriage help] Message-ID: <443ED1BF.90407@gtw.net> Hi fellow mentors and mentees, I received this email on Monday, April 11, from Abhishek. This is the first time I have been approached as a mentor. I have merely dipped my toe into the Triage project, so am not very well informed about it, but did my best to answer. Since we're all kind of new to this, I thought I'd ask for a critical review of my response to Abhishek, as well as to let the general mentor community know about his request in case someone else here can respond more fully than I have. Is this response okay? Are there things I missed saying that I should have, or things I said I shouldn't have? Was it too long? Too short? Should I forward his request to the fedora-triage-list or let him be responsible for making contact there, as I suggested below? I appreciate your input. Thanks a bunch! Hello Abhishek, I apologize for how long it has taken me to respond to your query. The Fedora Triaging (or "Bug Squad") team's primary mission "is to track down and shoot bugs in http://bugzilla.redhat.com/ that are related to Fedora and act as a bridge between users and developers," according to their page on the wiki. You can find out more information about triaging bugs for the Fedora project by visiting their web-page , or visiting the #fedora-triage IRC channel on irc.freenode.net. I understand that Fridays are the triage team's "bug days" on the #fedora-triage channel, but there are usually people there in the channel who can answer your questions most days. (You may have to be patient, though, as many folks on Fedora-related channels may be busy doing other things and may not answer right away. At least that's been my experience there.) There is also a mailing list you can write to, to ask people there how to help out. If you would like, I will be happy to forward your query on to the list, in case there are some folks there who have better answers than I have. (I happen to belong to that list.) Or, you can subscribe yourself to that list by visiting this page: . I myself work with the Fedora-Legacy group, doing some triaging/discerning/ reporting of security-related bugs in Red Hat's Bugzilla, as well as occasionally building revised packages and doing QA work on packages. The Fedora Legacy Project "provides security and critical bug fix errata packages for select Red Hat Linux and Fedora Core releases after they reach their end-of-life, thus extending their effective lifetime." If it sounds interesting to you, you can find out more about Fedora Legacy at our wiki page: . If there are any further questions you have or things I can do to be helpful to you as you get acquainted with the Fedora project, please feel free to write to me. If I am online on the freenode IRC network, you are welcome to talk to me there (I usually use the nickname "Questor" or "Questor_" there on IRC). Thank you for writing!
