Removing reset_overlay

So I went and removed reset_overlay from olpc.fth, thinking that I would
then be able to save changes made to the system. However, I found on
boot that /home doesn't get mounted because /dev/mtd0 doesn't exist.
What could cause this, and how can we fix it?
