rpm/yum hurdles

Disclaimer: I am not asking for help; I'm sharing my experiences.

(Triggered by the recent mention of rpm formats) I'm surprised that
for a number of days the 'glibc-common' package in the F11 updates
repository has had a "header problem", without that problem being
addressed. 'yum' says that there is a dependency conflict
concerning glibc-common, and won't update it. I was able to install
the recent F11 'glibc' update by myself manually downloading it and
glibc-common, and using 'rpm' to install them simultaneously -- but
even then 'rpm' told me its post-processing of glibc-common failed.

I guess I must be the only person using XOs to be a heavy user of
'yum' (for instance, I run 'yum upgrade' daily against all my XOs).
I would have thought "hurdles" with updating F11 would have been
noticed (and fixed) in the wider (beyond XO) Fedora community.
