Summary: Can't install RPM packages grahically in KDE because of
                    assocation problem.
           Product: Fedora Core
           Version: fc5
          Platform: i586
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: high
          Priority: normal
         Component: Package Review
        AssignedTo: notting at redhat.com
        ReportedBy: cwgarfield12 at yahoo.com

Description of problem:
I am using Fedora Core 5 with kde 3.5.2. In GNOME, the graphical package
installer would always work fine. You could just double click a package and
that would be it. But I installed FC5 with only KDE and when I double click a
saved RPM file, an "open with" dialog box comes up. I've attempted to
associate rpm file in kde with pup or pirut, the FC5 package install and
update utitlities, but with no luck. They will not open the RPM file, saying
no rpm file has been given for install.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora Core 5 Final, kde 3.5.2

How reproducible: Very Easily, just try to install a local rpm under KDE.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Fedora Core with just KDE as the only window manager
2. Attempt to install a locally saved rpm file (such as on desktop or in a
folder on the hard drive.)
3. You will get the KDE open with dialog box because KDE doesn't know what to
do with an RPM file.

Expected results: That KDE would open the RPM with "system-install-packages"
command automatically just as GNOME would. In KDE, this assocation is not
made "out of the box".

Additional info: THE SOLUTION
The user has to fix this manually by typing "system-install-packages" (without
the quotes) into the KDE Open With dialog box and then check the box "Remember
application association for this type of file" so that this setting is
remembered by KDE in the future, thereby fixing this problem.

SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE RELEASES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also please consider including kpackage as well (from kdeadmin package group)
in future releases. I find it to be a much more efficient tool for package
management/software maintenance than pirut, pup, YUMEX, or the commandline RPM
command. Another thing I had to install myself...
