It is up to you. If hardcoded number is worth writing for you, I prefer that
you write the specific version by using macro as you said 
(e.g. %define evo_ver 2.9.1).

> BTW, the evolution-connector spec does not use find-lang. Is that wrong?
I have not yet checked this, however, perhaps it is wrong if this
package includes gettext mo files.
