OK, I've now received the exact same error in mock with a "fedora-6-i386-core"
and a "fedora-6-x86_64-core" build root.  And, building outside mock gives 
exactly the same error, too.

I agree that you have set exactly the same (byte-for-byte!) python_sitearch 
macro as is suggested in the guidelines.  I can only conclude that the build 
process is either somehow either ignoring the macro or is un-defining it.
Neither of which makes sense to me.

Can someone (anyone?) please suggest a way to debug this problem?  Its 
frustrating since the VTK builds are a little time-consuming.
