I was able to fix the debugedit issue by removing -gstabs+ flags from the build
process. Apparently, the stripper get caught up on those in x86_64, see bug 453506

The package has now been rebuilt with this fix, and some other small tweaks.
Note, ppc building is not possible at the moment:
