I just ran into the patch file apply error as well, apparently the patch from
Fedora 10 / 11 is more picky about the contents of the patch because this spec
file used to build on Fedora 8.

Simply rediffing the ia64 part of the patch is enough to complete the build.
I'll attach the patch file I used to build gpc for Fedora 10.
