I'm going by the information given in comment 20 - is that inaccurate?

According to upstream:

"Thanks for your efforts with this whole thing - I'm looking forward to 
it working eventually.  I've moved to mmdb-1.21, fixes a LINK
format problem, IIRC."

So it may build with earlier versions, I'm only using >= 1.20 to coincide with
Paul.
