Unfortunately, the patch in comment #3 that fixes perl bug #54934 is to
PerlIO::via which is in the perl package.  It will have to be applied there. 
It sounds like newer version of PerlIO::via::dynamic may have a workaround for
the bug in 5.10.0.

I will build the newest version of SVK.
