The update of gnome-panel-2.3.6.2-2.i386 from rawhide trashes the
floating panel so seriously that now there is no other way to logout
of the Gnome desktop other than CTRL-ALT-BKSP.
See: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=102530
SUMMARY:
upgrading to gnome-panel-2.3.6.2-2.i386 from rawhide "kills" default.

That said, I've decided to use good ol' KDE as my default desktop.
However, I can't add any startup programs to the KDE session.
Anyone care to comment on this?

SUMMARY:
unable to add startup programs in KDE
I guess the only solution to the various problems now present, would
be to do a clean re-install of the Severn beta 1, but since beta 2 is
supposed to be out shortly, I guess I'll wait for *that*.

... not up to much "hoop jumping" at the moment :-(
