i'm not sure i understand.  i _can_ use the last half GB?  but the
kernel doesnt report it as available?  could you please explain this
further or point me towards some other documentation?  if i put 8gb of
ram in this machine what will the kernel report as available?

i haven't had any success booting my own 2.6 either, but i'll try again!
