Alsa works fine here, you have to a) use --with-cards= on the ./configure to 
select the card you have (to avoid making the serial midi driver which does 
not compile) and b) do touch include/linux/workqueue.h after the configure, 
to avoid problems with schedule_work not being found after the driver is 
built.  Other than that its fine -- and ALSA is better than the alternatives 
in my experience by quite a margin.
