If you use GNOME, it could be Nautilus crashing.  It currently does this
for me, anyway, and I get a GNOME error dialog box which, when closed,
leads into a nasty "crash loop" (due to Nautilus respawning).

You need the boot parameter "rhgb" in your grub.conf.
