I get the behaviour you describe when Nautilus has not been prelinked
yet.  In that case, .xsession-errors contains relocation error messages.

Alexander Larsson wrote on this ML that Anaconda now activates it by
default.  Apparently, package updates don't add this option if "nogui"
is missing.
