First are you installing on Redhat 9 or on severn? It does make a
difference. Also, some of the conflicting advice may be due to alternate
ways to solve the same problem.

If you are installing on severn, have a look on at the discussion on the
taroon-beta-list for ideas, as taroon is probably very similar to severn.

Some OUI versions (ie. runInstaller) won't work on severn/taroon due to
java-severn conflicts but do work on RHL9, which might explain the
conflicting advice.
