You might want to look at things like fwbuilder (my personal favorite),
gShield, or shorewall. All of them make building a router/NAT/firewall an whole
lot easier. They each have their strong points and weaknesses. If your just
trying to get things up and running and you can live with its limitations
gShield has a very low cost of entry. It is nothing more than a group of shell
scripts that you set some variables in a config file and load. I used it for a
long time until my needs exceeded its ability ( I needed to be able to handle
4 interfaces and gShield cannot do this).
