I have several machines on which LILO works fine but GRUB does not.  One is an 
HP NetServer LS2 5/133 dual Pentium, one is a dual PPro 200 SUperMicro P6DNE, 
and I'd have to look at the others to see.  But one of the problem machines 
did get fixed; I had a ASUS P3B-F with a Promise Ultra 66 that GRUB just 
didn't like around, oh, 7.3 or so.  The 8.0 GRUB works fine on it.
